My four month membership is almost up at Dahn Yoga. I need to decide if I am going to renew there or check out other Yoga studios. Not only am I curious about other studios and classes, but also other forms of yoga practices.
Dahn Yoga is a Korean based yoga created by a man named Ilchi Lee. I was drawn to Dahn Yoga right away when I was doing my initial Yoga research here in Vegas. It was exactly what I needed! My PCP recommended me to take Yoga classes to help alleviate my anxieties. 4 months down the road and I am now anxiety-free! Well, maybe 90%. Yoga has to be the main culprit. I’ve tried the meds Rx’d to me, and those made me feel worse.
Dahn Yoga focuses on body tapping, brain wave vibration, strengthening our dahn Jon (core), and meditation. In the beginning, I went about 4 days a week. Then midway, I attended 3 days a week. Perhaps it’s me feeling so much better, that I’ve started to only go about 2-3 days a week. My Yoga instructor recommends I try to get back to 3-4 times a week. Which I know is much more beneficial than going less.
I love this place and this form of Yoga. Weekends, Tuesdays and Wednesdays are my favorite classes. They are focused more on traditional Yoga moves. Mondays are focused weight loss and detox. The studio is a little warmer and we incorporate our wooden Yoga pillows with the exercises. This is the class I need to come to more. Thursday classes are Tai-Chi, which I don’t care much for. However, this is the class that usually kicks my ass. I should attend more but I don’t. Fridays used to be my fave. It is Brain wave vibration classes. This involves a lot of free style party music [untz untz untz untz] dancing. It’s where I get my fist pump on lol. This is where I usually sweat the most in Yoga.
The disadvantages of this place for me has to be #1. location! It’s a couple miles away on the Southeast part of town. Traffic sucks, no matter what day or time of day it is. #2. Class hours. Morning classes are 10 am. Weekends only have one class (mornings). Evening classes 6 and 7:30 for the rest of the week. I wish they had more weekend hours available and hours in between the day. A 1 or 2pm class would be great. #3. The PRICE!!!! Which brings me to my Renewal dilemma. I don’t even want to bring up the numbers because it will just remind me of a decision I must make soon. In trying to get some sleep tonight.
Anyhow, hopefully I decide soon. I am considering trying out Bikram Yoga but an apprehension to the classroom temperature always keep me from pursuing it. Especially with my being sensitive to heat. But I hear it’s the best Yoga for weight loss. I am also thinking about trying out the Yoga studio at the nearby Whole Foods. It is only $40 for the first one month, which almost sounds FREE considering how much I paid at Dahn Yoga. I’m sure passed the first month at Whole Foods, the membership fee will be just as asspensive.
